CULTURE AND TERRITORY
Triei rises in a very favourable territory, set in the middle of a plain and of a few hills.
It is a rare example of wild nature, still untouched due to a policy aiming at environmental conservation. The
park of Mullò, surrounded by hills teeming with the maquis, is an uncontaminated area
where luxuriant lentisks and ancient carobs grow. Instead, among the junipers of Munduja Mountain
you will be able to practise birdwatching and to see the golden eagle, many specimens of
hawks and the bearded vultures.
A tomb of giants has been recently unearthed on the Osono plateau; twenty years ago it was covered with very
thick bushes of rock rose and lentisk but a drastic cleaning of the area brought to light an archeological monument that is
unique in the whole Sardinia. Built with blocks of white limestone, it is 22 metres long, while the mortuary alone measures
10 metres. The nuragh of Bau Nuraxi is also very interesting: it consists of one central tower and two lateral,
of a boundary wall with four towers and some circular huts, still visible.
Local dishes are goat broth and the roasted goat, while among the agricultural products honey
stands out, especially the one made with the strawberry tree. There are also excellent wines made from the “
cannonau” grapes and the grappas (filu ‘e ferru).
