Placed at the centre of an amphitheatre formed by Oro Mountain and set between the two rivers of Pramaera
and of Girasole, Lotzorai is a pleasant seaside resort that attracts more and more new tourists, especially
the families looking for quiet, sun, sea and clean beaches. Due to a very favourable climate, winters are never harsh and
summers are mitigated by a cool breeze rising from the sea. These climate conditions help the
tillage of the soil, a very flat and fertile hinterland, set between the two rivers.
The long shore is characterized by a very white sand, more or less fine depending on the area, and by a
crystal-clear and green sea. Even if you stay here in the most crowded periods, you will feel privileged:
the beaches of “Is Orrosas” (lido delle rose, “orrosas” means “roses”), Pollu
, Iscrixedda, Tancau (a small hamlet 3 km far from the centre) and Girasole are
so wide to prevent the bathers from thronging. In front of Lotzorai, the Isolotto d’Ogliastra rises, a perfect spot
for divers and people fond of snorkelling, who will be able to see groupers, saddled breams and striped breams.
Everyday, boats sail from the nearby wharf of Arbatax, bound for the beautiful coves of the
Baunei gulf: Luna, Mariolu, Goloritzè.
It is really worth visiting the castle of Medusa (castello della Medusa): it was built up in medieval times on the remains of
a Punic construction.
